Losing a Spouse

Losing a spouse can be the most devastating part of life. When you find that special someone who you love and will love forever, and then they are gone, it cripples you to your very core. The challenges you are facing seems like mountains. The first month or two, let your family take care of you. Your children especially, are hurting too, so let them help, so they feel they are doing something, it will actually help them to cope.

Let them lead you through the jobs that are required after a death, they are thinking more clearly than you are. Do not make any life changing decisions. After you feel you have your feet finally on the ground again, be good to yourself, take each day one day at a time and get out with your friends. You need your friends more now than ever before, and they will be willing and able to help you. When you are grieving it can be hard on your health.

Make sure you eat right, exercise and get out of the house regularly. It is wise to join a support group, where you will get a lot of your questions ether answered or worked out. You will also meet more friends and find out what other widows/widowers do to cope. The more ideas you have for activity in your life now, the better you can cope. Then you must act on the ideas that sounds good to you.
